This thrifted piece of fabric is from our local Senior Center Thrift Store. It’s my regular Saturday outing. I usually score 4 or 5 different pieces at less than $12.00 for all. I made covered buttons for the cuffs and added a thrifted vintage pin at the collar. I love the way this fits. However, if I made it again, I would add some interfacing to the collar. It could use a little more shape. Too bad the pattern didn’t suggest using it. NewLook 6000
I thought this dress would make up really easily, but it sure didn’t turn out that way. I’m a stickler for following the pattern directions, but if I ever made it again, I’d do it my way. I chose a lightweight cotton with a raspberry color circular pattern on a cream background. With only 5 pieces to the pattern, and no inset sleeve, how could it be so difficult? First of all, the whole top piece is totally lined. Four of each pattern piece is required. Not having quite enough material, I had to cut the lining from a different fabric. Then it’s quite the trick to put the lining together with the fabric. It took hours! Finally, the side zipper went in and then the lining had to be tacked down along the inside of the zipper. It was a pain in the booty! I would have lined the bodice pieces and then attached them to the waistband. Needless to say, I did not give up. It’s not my favorite creation, but it’s wearable! This is the same color and style as the vintage dress I wore to the gala. I love that side rouching, so flattering!
