One of my greatest pleasures is spending time with my two lovely granddaughter’s. We set up two sewing machines, gathered up some scraps of material from my daughter’s storage boxes in the garage and began our project. We started by measuring a square 8 and a half by 8 and a half inches. Next the girls pinned the pattern to the fabric. Pinning is hard for beginners. It takes a lot of practice to stick it in and push it back up, all the while keeping the fabric smooth. Next, the girls cut out the pattern, cut batting for the middle and began making the potholders. This whole experience reminded me of my mother’s unending patience, teaching me how to sew when I was a girl. All you can do is step back and guide with words, thread the machine, troubleshoot the jammed sewing machine, and watch the magic happen. We had a great time and I look forward to doing it again soon.
